I just finished this book and I’ve got to say, it was a delight.
I enjoyed every minute of it. Jeff Garland writes his story of his addiction to food, going green and being one seriously funny guy. I loved it. I caught myself reading it with a smile on my face because I was so amused.
Speaking of smiles on the face... thank you for putting your take on the end of "The Giver" so delicately.
After the feeling returned to my fingers, I googled, and found out the author deliberately left it up to the reader. So in that case, I choose life... since it's up to me.
(Then I just happened to look it up again just now and found out that in her third book, "The Messenger" she includes Jonas as a character...) looks like I have a couple more books on my list.
Nathan- I had read that the author left it open for interpretation as well. Here's my thought on the character Jonas in the other book. Remember in 'the Giver' how they will loudly chant someones name and speak it slower and softer until it is a whisper and they never speak of it again. Well, the community did that after Jonas left. And now, Jonas or at least the name, lives in another community. That's one theory I have. I am going to read the other books as well though.
It sounds like I want him to be dead. But oh contraire. I just had that feeling at the end of the book. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
As for adding 'my footprint' to your list. Maybe don't. There is some naughty language. I'd rate it R.
Have you ever read 'On the Road'? I am reading it right now. It's pretty interesting.
